Thelma McMillen Recovery Center Alumni Community
At Thelma McMillen, we firmly believe that you are not just a patient here for only 9 months, but rather, you are a member of our recovery community forever. For 30 years, we have worked to provide activities and support for our Alumni and their families, and we continue to do so virtually during this Covid pandemic. When the situation allows, we hope to see you in person again.
Goals of Our Program
We provide an ongoing environment for those who have gone through our program and their families to continue to engage with each other, and provide support when needed. Any graduate of TMRC is eligible to be an Alumni, and there is no cost to access the benefits provided. Some of our Alumni are recent graduates, and others continue to be involved 10, 20, and 30 years after completion. Our goal is to make sure all who have graduated from TMRC always feel they have a “family” they can depend on, reach out to when needed, and provide care, support, and guidance for others.
Benefits of the TMRC Alumni Program
As a program committed to, and rooted in the South Bay community, our Alumni program enables graduates and their families to stay in touch, and to attend fun, healthy, and sober activities. Among the benefits are:
- Many of our alumni continue to attend the once-a-week gender group (current clients who have yet to graduate also attend this group) as aftercare/continuing care for decades.
- A separate biweekly support group of alumni and their family members only convenes at a morning time and at an evening time, respectively.
- We provide resources and information on a variety of 12-Step meetings and other abstinence-based organizations in the community.
Sample Sober Activities we provide:
- Family-centered picnics
- Super Bowl parties
- Yard sales
- Outings to area sporting events
- Holiday gatherings
Weekly Alumni Support Groups
In addition to the ability to continue in the once per week gender group (at no charge), we also offer a weekly support group for TMRC alumni. The alumni group is held at the center, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 4:30 - 5:30pm. Those who are unable to attend in person can virtually join the group. One of our counselors helps facilitate these groups, but they are run by, and for, our alumni.
We hope you will become active in our alumni program. It is for your benefit, and the benefit of others as well. If you want to hear directly from our alumni, click here to view quotes and videos from our alumni on our testimonial web page.
