In our 30 years at the Thelma McMillen Recovery Center at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, we have strived to serve the South Bay Community in battling the problems of drug and alcohol use and addiction. We recognize that addiction does not discriminate against religion, gender, or race and is an equal opportunity destroyer of lives.
We have worked hard to respect and care for the people we serve and to treat them well, fairly and help them reclaim and maintain their dignity. We are in full support of the values which insure respect, justice, and equality for all, and we support those lobbying for these values.
As mental health specialists, we know the toll discrimination takes on people’s well-being and we will continue to strive and act in fair and just ways. Think of the experience we had as children, going to school and being taught to recite daily about our nation being indivisible, with liberty, and justice (and equality) for all. At the Thelma McMillen Recovery Center, we will work harder to honor these values every day.
